A brief history of the area

The modern history of Mossel Bay began on 3 February 1488, when the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias landed with his men at a point close to the site of the modern-day Dias Museum Complex. Here they found a spring from which to replenish their water supplies. Dias had been appointed to search for a trading route to India by King John II of Portugal, and, without realising it, actually rounded the Cape of Good Hope before landing at Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay Municipality infrastructure is well-maintained. That said transport is limited so most would be expected to use their own vehicles or minivan taxis that run around the various epicentres of South Africa.

Schools in the area

Another factor why so many are choosing Mossel Bay as their destination of choice in terms of residence is for the fact that there are a number of great schools to choose from. Some of the more well-known schools in Mossel Bay include Park Primary School, Milkwood Primary School, Laerskool Hartenbos, Curro Mossel Bay, Ridgeview Primary, Hillcrest Secondary School and Punt High School.

Mossel Bay has the second largest population in the Eden District which, according to the forecasts of the Western Cape Department of Social Development, is estimated to be 97 981 in 2017. This total gradually increases across the 5-year planning cycle and is expected to reach 105 556 by 2023. This equates to an approximate 7.7 per cent growth off the 2017 base estimate.

Hartenbos's market showed a steady decline in volume of sales which indicates to me that demand exceeded supply. More property owners held onto their assets thus buyers had less options to choose from and were compelled to commit themselves to available stock. The capital growth component indicated above therefore an indication that when demand exceeds supply, there will be an increase in median price.

Monte Christo has shown similar tendencies. The negative volume once again can be ascribed to the economic uncertainty experienced. Retiree semi-grants normally flock to Hartenbos as a popular destination.
